Updating/Refresh--Error Message--Slice--help!

When I try to refresh my citations in a huge document in Word for Mac 2011 in which I've got with hundreds of citations, I get an error message:


Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
citations[(j - 1)].sortedItems.slice(...)[0] is undefined


This is very upsetting. I can't tell which of my citations are correct and which need updating. And I can't tell which one is corrupted. I'm really hoping someone out there has a solution!

    is the best I can give you. Even with a large document that should be pretty quick.

    Hi. Thanks for the idea, Adam Smith. No luck.

    I tried cutting and pasting and got the same error message.

    Here is my Error Report ID: 1318529029. This is my most recent error report ID before the experiments I mention below.

    I next tried to switch to a different bibliographic style and got this report:

    Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
    The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1728.) @[insertFieldRaw:document.m:1203]

    Any other ideas?

    Key would be the last two steps, i.e. splitting the document &identifying the problematic citation (if you do, please keep a copy so we can take a look). Are you saying you've tried that? With what results exactly?

    No, I haven't tried that. I'm hoping for some other suggestions before I do because it'll take forever. This document has all my notes for a book, with over 1100 citations. Each time it takes a while to have it refresh. I appreciate your help.

    Provided that you have the most recent version of Zotero (i.e. 4.0.28.7 or above) that's the only step we have left. Since you'll be splitting the document, the refresh will get faster and the power of bisection searches means that even with 1100 citations you'll only have to do this 10-11 times.

    My Contribution: may not apply but this just happened to me and was able to resolve it by going into the Zotero add on within word (I'm using word on a Lenovo) and going back into document preferences and just resetting to APA. It worked after that. I'm not sure of the cause in my case it might have had something to do with changing the font of the citation or coping a citation from a different document, that's the kind of messing I was doing.

    Anyway, I hope your problem might be as easily resolved.

    Note that this thread is not relevant to people currently experiencing this problem (in March 2018). There are some issues with the Word add-in following the 5.0.36 update of Zotero and developers are actively working on them. If you continue to have problems with Word integration, start a new thread.

    Nicholas32 God bless you!!! I've been pulling out my hair trying to solve this problem. The fix was way easier than I was worried it might be!
