Add all references in shared Word document to shared library

It would be great if there was a way so that all the references you put into a document you are sharing with others could be immediately added to that shared library. That way, you wouldn't have to manually drag each reference to the shared library (group). Is there a way to do this already that I am missing?

    not currently possible, but document collections are generally planned. Probably not in the super-near future, though.

    Dang! Do you have a good work around to make things easier when working with a group?

    I'd just strongly encourage everyone to add items to the group before citing them and then making sure to cite the item in the group. That's the most robust solution.

    As you probably know, it _is_ possible to work with a document with items inserted from several personal libraries, but only the original inserter can edit the underlying data and it also requires some care to not create duplicates (i.e. the same reference inserted from different libraries).

    Okay, that makes sense--just have a rule that you have to use the shared library when you do the insert citation in Word. That way people have to make sure to add it ahead of time if it's not there. Thanks for the idea.

    Any way to see whether references in a Word document are coming from the ones in My Library or the shared Group?

    Yeah, you can show Word field codes by pressing alt+F9 -- you'll see a lot of code for each item, the key thing being the uri, which should be easily identifiable as group vs. user (you can hide the codes again with alt+F9). You should be able to search through these for personal library URIs -- I don't know the exact pattern to look for, but it should be pretty obvious (something like www.zotero.org/[username]/items/ vs. www.zotero.org/groups/[groupnumber]/items )

    Good solution. I see that this works for finding that. I can do it one by one with right clicking on the citation and clicking "toggle field code", but the alt + F9 command doesn't work for me, possibly because I'm on a mac. Is there an alternate code for mac?

    try alt+FN+F9 for Mac
