What is used as an independent style?

Hi,

I am creating citation styles for three journals published by The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.
- Yakugaku Zasshi
- Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
- Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin

Out of these three, "Yakugaku Zasshi" and "Chemical & Pharmaceutical Bulltin" share the same citation style and "Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin" has its own citation style.

I would like to know whether I should use the name of the society or the name of one of the first two journals as an independent in this case. Could anybody advise which is preferable?

    In this case we'd prefer your option 2.)

    There's no hard-and-fast rule, but we'd go with option 1.) if there were more journals by the society, I'd say probably starting somewhere between 3-5.

    Thank you very much. I will go with option 2).

    Actually, I went with option 1) for The Chemical Society of Japan yesterday. This society has two journals "Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan" and "Chemical Letters". This society has no other journals with the same citation style. Would it be better to remove them and submit new styles with option 2) once again?

    No, don't worry about it, it's fine as it is. But as @adamsmith suggests option 2 is generally (slightly) preferred if there are only two journals with the same style.
