it would be really really nice if Zotero would allow to nest "chapter items" inside "book items"...

    generally that's still something that's planned, but it's not going to happen any time soon. Hierarchical relationships between regular items would require significant changes to the database structure.

    One way I handled this was the "Related" feature. I made each chapter related to the other chapters and the main citation. It works so you can see the relationships when you are in a citation, but not by looking at the library view.
