Is Zotero on Safari broken?

Hello,

I use Zotero with Chrome and it works quite fine, but I've been using Safari on my macbook because it uses less battery. Zotero does not seem to work at all. Any article I try to save I get the error: An error occurred while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information.

Here are two for example: (both work fine in Chrome)

http://www.sciencemag.org/content/280/5371/1889.short

http://psycnet.apa.org/psycinfo/1960-06706-000

I am on latest OSX 10.11.1, Safari is version 9.0.1. My Zotero plugin is the latest version 4.0.28
  • could we get an error report ID from the Safari Connector for both of these, please?
It shouldn't be generally broken, no--only place where we know that's the case is currently JSTOR and that's a very peculiar case.

Also--are those the URLs exactly as you see them, or did you remove any part (that would be used by your institution for authentication).

    Hi,

    Report ID:84105597

Yes those URLs are exactly how I see them.

OK just noticed something else.. in Zotero preferences it says Zotero Standalone is currently unavailable. I realized I didn't have Zotero program running so I opened it and tried again. This time I was able to save an article. But if I close Zotero standalone it stops working. In preferences if I click Authorize under save to server I get: Authorization could not be completed. An invalid response was received from the Zotero server
  • ah, that's different. I still think that should work, but very few people are using connectors without Standalone, so it's certainly not impossible that's broken for Safari.

Could you provide a debug ID (different from report ID) for a failed attempt to authorize the connector from the Safari Connector

Thanks. I see. I'm not used to having zotero running all the time. On Windows w/ Chrome connector it isn't necessary.

  • (I'd recommend doing it anyway -- the differences aren't huge, but you're likely to get PDFs attached on more pages and better data on some).
  • @Dan could you look at the debug please
