No italics when reference drag and drop to Pages...

When I drag and drop references using APA 6th ed. the Journal name and volume should italicise but doesn't in Pages (does in others e.g. Notes). I changed settings to html and I can see the code to italicise is present in the Pages document then.

Does anyone have a fix or is it just manual italics?

Thanks
  • how about when instead of drag&drop you use right-click (ctrl+click)-->Create Bibliography and select clipboard and use that. Do you get italics when you paste that?
  • Just tried and no sign of italics in Pages still (still works in Notes).
  • If you copy text with italics from Notes, do you get italics in Pages then?
Zotero uses standard clipboard conventions for italics; I've never seen them not work, but it's certainly possible that Pages is the exception here.
  • I tried that, the italics don't import from Notes and in case it was hidden somewhere in Pages I then tried exporting but they didn't reappear in Notes or Word.
  • are you able to paste any text with italics to Pages from _anywhere_ (that isn't Pages itself)?
What will almost certainly work, btw., is saving as RTF and opening in pages, though obviously that's a lot less cool than drag&drop.
  • I've just managed to copy and paste some from the web...
  • OK, thanks.
@Dan -- you're the Mac person. Any ideas about this?
  • Thanks for your help btw. At least RTF way works if no other fix!

How, exactly? If I copy text containing italics from Firefox or Chrome into Pages, I get plain text. Rich text is preserved pasting into Notes.
  • I used Safari...
  • Zotero is based on Firefox, so this won't work.
  • Hi Dan, don't know why that worked but was hoping to find a solution to drag and drop italics in Pages. Do you know of any fix? Thanks
  • right, what Dan is saying is that since Pages can only take rich text from Safari, but Zotero is based on Firefox code, there isn't, unfortunately, going to be a way to get this to work with drag&drop. (And this is clearly a Pages bug/missing feature: inability to copy rich text from 2 out of 3 major browsers as well as most other software as it seems is really poor design.
  • Or the Mac Notes app too - which you'd think it should!
Thanks Adam - I'll long way RTF it when I do my bibliography.

I do get rich text copying from Notes to Pages on El Capitan, for what it's worth. But while this could be a bug in Firefox/Chrome, the fact that it works pasting into TextEdit and Notes and not Pages suggests an issue in Pages.
