Space before inline citation
Using Word add-in, citations are inserted where required in the text. If the bibliography is then formated with a numbered style, say Nature, the numbers are placed as superscripts next to a word, without a space in between. But if it is then reformated to another sryle, such as (Author et al., 2015), the opening parenthesis is stuck next to the word, without a space, which does not look right and requires manual editing. Of cource, the reverse is true if the citation is inserted after typing a space - the parenthesis will be OK but the superscript number will have a gap before it. This makes it hard to switch styles, e.g. when resubmitting an article to another journal. Is there any way to force styles that use (Author et al., 2015) to automatically insert a space before the parenthesis when formatted?
See https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step if you want to go that route.
(We did consider this way back, but even then there were already so many people using those styles as they are that we felt the damage done by inserting an extra space would be worse).
