Double-Click to "Open in new Tab"

I often have to work with several sources at the same time, and have to go back and forth. This is really frustrating since every time I have to do a new search if I want to go back to the previous one (800 sources and counting).

This is impractical since:
1. I use a word processor which does not automatically sync with Zotero, and I rely on copy and paste style (constant rtf-scan would mess up my footnotes).
2. I use zotero for note taking. Just double-checking something in a different source while working on another becomes disturbing.
3. It is not possible to open multiple sources and their notes at the same time, which would really help to go through all the relevant sources considering a topic.

Therefore it would be great if you would introduce tabs or new windows as a possibility.

Please
  • You can use standard browser conventions (e.g., Cmd-Shift-click/Ctrl-Shift-click to open in a new front-most tab, or without Shift for a background tab) when clicking on the "URL"/"DOI" labels in the right-hand pane of a regular item or when clicking on the link in the right-pane for an attachment.

Those work when double-clicking too, but they're a little more awkward there just because they affect the item collapsing/expanding too.

We can consider a setting for opening in a new tab by default, though I'm not sure whether it would open in the foreground or background.
  • @Dan - the request seems to be about having multiple _Zotero_ tabs open at the same time, not just opening attachments in new tabs.

    Oh, sorry.

You can have Zotero open in different Zotero windows in Firefox. It's not possible to have multiple windows in Standalone, and I'm not sure if we want to allow that, but it is possible to open multiple note windows at the same time.

Navigation arrows could also help a bit here.
  • Yes, I meant using the Standalone version. Multiple note windows definitely helps, I'll have to look into that! Thanks for your quick response.
