My zotero can't download from ScienceDirect

Recently I can't download pdf and even snapshop from journals in ScienceDirect. But OK for other journals.
I'm not sure if this only happens to me or everyone. The only change I found after the problem is that our institute ip site now has multiple login account with access for ScienceDirect library. So when I want to read papers in ScienceDircet, a page to choose a source jumps out first. I don't know if the problem results from this.
  • Could you provide an url of an article in Science Direct as you see it and which fail to download the pdf with zotero?
  • actually all the papers in Science Direct.
    for example http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0896627315008223
    Thank you!
  • I don't have access to the article you mentioned, but it works for me for example here http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0957417415006235

Can you also provide a report ID and some more information about your setup (e.g. OS, browser)?
  • I can't download your example...So it may be my own problem :(
Of course I could download from ScienceDirect before. But it doesn't work from some time.

    WIN7 X64 enterprise, chrome X64
Sorry but what is report ID?
  • zuphilp linked to instructions: https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems
  • zotero report ID:509067088
    chrome connector report ID: 30210671

    Thank you!
  • @Dan: Is there anything in these reports?
  • There's this:
[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: can't access dead object" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/fulltext.js" line: 515}]
Which may or may not be related.

Fan Xian, can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) from both for the save attempt?
  • standalone debug ID:D972331884
    connector debug ID:D521683506
  • any useful information?
  • adamsmith/zuphilip, a couple issues:
    (3)(+0000033): [wpdDOMSaver.init] ...

    (3)(+0000019): [wpdDOMSaver.saveDocumentHTML]: X:\paper-zotero\storage\XA7TNNXI\S0896627315008223.html

    (3)(+0000014): [wpdDOMSaver.saveHTMLDocument]

(2)(+0000048): Downloaded PDF did not have MIME type 'application/pdf' in Attachments.importFromURL()

    (3)(+0000000):

    <head>
    <title>ScienceDirect - Choose Organization</title>
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
    <script language="javascript
And then there appear to be repeated "/connector/attachmentProgress" calls from the connector — not sure why that's happening, unless there's another download in progress.
  • @Fan Xian -- could you describe how you login to access ScienceDirect journals? At least for the PDF part, you're hitting some type of login screen.

@Dan -- that's the entire stack trace? The error is in webpagedump?
  • Both the HTML and the PDF are failing, from the looks of it. The former one is in WPD. Full stack track:
    (3)(+0000000): TypeError: aDocument.getElementsByTagName(...)[0] is undefined

    importFromDocument@chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/attachments.js:621:5
    Zotero.Attachments
  • ah OK, and the item itself imports fine, just no attachments, I see now. I'm going to hope that the snapshot issue has the same cause as the PDF, so let's try to figure that one out.

    Of course :)
Actually I don't know how I login to access ScienceDirect journals as this is automatically provided by our institute. No other parameter setting but my Internet ipv4 address. Usually when I open a paper website, it automatically displays the fulltext (and the web tells us the access by our organization).

as mentioned above, recently (maybe my zotero can't download SD pdf from tnen on?) when I open a ScienceDirect paper, a "choose organization" webpage comes out first, saying that "You have reached this page because you currently have access to ScienceDirect through multiple organizations. Please select one organization from the list below. This will determine the ScienceDirect features and entitlements available to you in this session." and provides me two choise. I haven't realized that we have access to a academic paper press by our institute or library or both of them until now.
  • any progress?
  • not really, no. You can just open the PDF when you click on it? Or do you again get the organization selection screen?
  • for PDF, just open it directly if I have chosen the source before. organization selection screen appears just when I want to get fulltext in the ScienceDirect library for the first time after opening Chrome
  • OK, and those failed Zotero download attempts, those are after you've selected your organization in that session, right?
  • Yeah,that's the case.
