Highlighting and annotating

2»
  • I am having a very similar problem: Sometimes I cannot highlight text from an HTML snapshot. I also have AutoCopy installed so I am not sure if this is affecting it, but I would like for Zotero to repair it so that when I press the highlight button and select some text it does not automatically copy the selected text but highlights the text (I as desire to).
  • I think the primary problem with highlighting in html is that it doesnt work if youve snapshotted a page running a multiplicity of scripts. I was having the same problems with a Lexis case that I'd snapshotted. I hit 'show file' in Zotero and was taken to the folder containing the snapshot files for my page. Then I removed all files other than the html file containing the case text. I'm not really sure if what I did made sense or if it will have any long term effects but highlights and annotations seem to work now.

    To the developers,
This annotation tool is really useful and promises to change the way I do my readings for legal research. However, it could really do with some improvement. Here are a couple of suggestions:

    1. Snapshot should work in other formats. To this end, could you allow it to convert .doc and other word processing files into .html automatically? That may at least allow us to maintain all our annotated docs under Zotero.

    2. To prevent the possibility of crashes, could you create a save button for annotating? That may mitigate the possibility of losing large numbers of annotations.

Anyway, its an excellent idea. Here's hoping better versions will come out soon.
  • If annotation does not work with .pdf files, why does it appear every time I double-click on any Adobe Reader file in zotero? It is pointless and occupies valuable screen space.
  • Yes, this has been brought up before. If I'm not mistaken there are plans to allow to hide the annotation bar. But I don't want to go searching now - anyone remember?
  • I'm having trouble with highlighting now too (v1.5b2). The toolbar shows up most of the time on pdfs and almost never on html snapshots. Not the most useful pattern since it's not even supposed to work on pdfs! Any ideas what the problem is?
  • the way that i "save" my annotations is to go to the paper in my zotero library, right click, and select "attach snapshot of current page", and then i delete the old snapshot. this is a bit tedious but it's the best way i've found to save annotations/highlights
  • I can't save comments nor annotations to the snapshot of this page:
    http://www.sfmuseum.org/bio/sutter.html

    running: 1.5b21
  • Although I am sure the people who had these questions must have already got their questions for I write 2.5 years after the last post. Follow this to have the annotations stay even after you have closed the tabs, pages etc.: 1. Go to the page that you want to annotate. 2. Save its snapshot by right clicking -> Add Attachment -> Snapshot of current webpage. 3. Go to the snapshot by clicking on the little triangle on the left of the page whose snapshot you clicked, the snapshot will appear as an attachment. 4. Click on the snapshot (an attachment) and annotate the snapshot using the annotation tools now!
  • Hi friends
No matter what I do, it seems that the annotation bar (highlighting, notes) has disappeared from my Firefox with Zotero...
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you!
