Add item(s) by identifier not working

Report ID: 1093590111

When I enter an ISBN number, a "look up failed" window pops out and says, "Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again." I updated the standalone program and restarted it, but it still gives me the same error.

How do I solve this? Help would be much appreciated!

You're running an old version of Zotero, 4.0.23. Upgrade to the latest version and try again. If you're still having trouble, provide another Report ID from that.
  • Also, the isbn you're trying this with
  • Hi,

I guess I actually didn't update it when I said I did before. So now I updated it to the latest version (4.0.28.6), but only 1 out of 2 books worked when I typed in the identifier (ISBN). I tried a third book and that one worked, so I guess it is just that one book does not work. I do not mind manually typing that in.

The ISBN for the book that still got an error is 0393318664.

    The report ID is 872240311.

    Thank you for you help!
  • That should work -- Dan, could you check the error?
  • [JavaScript Error: "No items returned from any translator"]
  • @kathleenlee28 -- could you try this again, making sure you have the ISBN exactly as you have above -- 0393318664 --
and this time provide a debug ID (different from the error report) that covers the entire process:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output
  • Sure, the debug ID is D1389097606
  • adamsmith: Kathleen appears to be getting a WorldCat HTML page — and possibly a university-tailored one, from the looks of it — for http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/34704896?client=worldcat.org-detailed_record&page=endnote
  • @Kathleen -- can you import (via URL bar icon)
    from http://www.worldcat.org/title/wealth-of-nations-books-i-iii/oclc/8424650&referer=brief_results ?

If not, does your URL change in any way? If so, would you mind posting that here?
  • Yes, I can import via the URL bar icon from the link you sent me. By importing you mean clicking the icon on the URL bar and saving it to the Zotero standalone, right?
  • yup, that's what I meant.

What Dan writes suggests that this is somehow related to some customizing your university does on/with the Worldcat site, where we look up some (but not all--we try Library of Congress and the German general catalog first) ISBNs, but I don't currently have a good idea on how to troubleshoot this.

What do you see on this page:
    http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/34704896?client=worldcat.org-detailed_record&page=endnote ?
  • I see. When I click on the link, it automatically downloads a WorldCat ris file which opens onto Zotero with all the information filled out. I was able to get the book information I needed through the link. If an ISBN does not work again, I will just download an EndNote citation file that opens through Zotero.

Thank you again! You guys have been extremely helpful!
  • oddly enough, that's what Zotero tries to do automatically when you input that ISBN and it's not working in that case.

Not sure why -- are you off campus now? Could you try again with the ISBN above? It'd be good to know why this isn't/hasn't been working for you.
