PsycInfo (Ovid): Error ID: 1798387758

A function that used to work so beautifully somehow stopped working.

When I click on the icon in the address bar, it brings up a list of articles with check-boxes. I click the ones that I want to add to my Zotero library, then click OK. A few seconds later, the follwoing message appears

"Could Not Save Item. An error occurred while saving this item. Click troubleshooting for more info".

I consulted everything on the linked page, even reinstalled Zotero, and still the same, both from my desktop and laptop (MacBook Air)
  • Could you provide the url of the page exactly as you see it? What if you select a single result from the list, does the import still fall?

Dan, could you post relevant info from the report ID?
  • [JavaScript Error: "item.title is undefined" {file: "/Users/[...]/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/wzlfjl2n.default/zotero/translators/OVID Tagged.js" line: 207}]

It is the same whether I select a single or multiple articles. I'm not sure where I can find url. But the error message appear (and disappear in a few seconds) after "Saving to..." message on the right bottom corner of the screen. This happens whether I'm using Zotero Standalone or Zotero for Firefox.
  • For a single record that fails to import, could you select it in OVID search results (directly on page, not via Zotero) and then export the metadata using "Export to Endnote" (again, this is an OVID function), then post the contents of the file here.
  • (you may need to open the downloaded file in a text editor like notepad or TextEdit to be able to select and copy its content).

When I select a single articled and use the "export" function of OVID (which led me to choose .txt, EndNote, RIS, Refworks, etc), the only option that seem to work somewhat is by choosing RIS. This leads to a pop-up window where I select an application, I select Zotero Standalone, and the item gets created. It needs manual modification, though (e.g., a journal article gets entered as web page).

However, this is really not a solution to me. OVID is the main data base that I work with and I switched from EndNote because I did not have to go through the manual "EXPORT"-select an application process.

How come the function that used work before doesn't work anymore? It still works with Medline, Google Scholar, Amazon, etc.

if we knew why it doesn't work for you we'd just fix it. Aurimas was asking you to help troubleshoot, not suggesting a solution. Could you export to the Endnote format and post the content here as requested?

edit: I still also would really want to see the URL exactly as you see it -- just copy it from the URL bar.
  • When I Select the EndNote format, it just opens Zotero Standalone without making any entry.

As for the URL, here is the one that is linked to the error message "Could Not Save Item. An error occurred while saving this item. Click troubleshooting for more info"

    https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues

    Hope this helps! Thanks

sorry, we mean the URL you're seeing when you're trying to save, i.e. the OVID URL. We obviously know where our own error messages direct.
When I Select the EndNote format, it just opens Zotero Standalone without making any entry.
and you have no option to download that file and open it in a text editor? Seeing the content of that file would be very helpful.
  • I'm sorry for my confusion (and late reply)
the OVID URL that I have is
    http://ovidsp.tx.ovid.com/sp-3.15.1b/ovidweb.cgi
The error message appears on the right bottom corner of the window without URL. So I don't have any URL other than this generic one to report to you.

When I export a file to a text editor and click Zotero to open, the error message "The selected file is not in a supported format." appears. As an example, a text editor file that did not get exported into Zotero looks like this. Hope this helps.

    Abstract
The February-March 2014 special issue of the American Psychologist featured articles summarizing select contributions from the field of psychology to the assessment and treatment of chronic pain. The articles examined a range of psychosocial and family factors that influence individual adjustment and contribute to disparities in pain care. The reviews also considered the psychological correlates and neurophysiological mechanisms of specific pain treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, hypnosis, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and meditation. Although a number of articles emphasized the role that negative states of mind play in pain outcomes, positive emotions were given only brief mention. Here, we provide a rationale for the inclusion of positive emotions in chronic pain research. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2015 APA, all rights reserved)

Are you sure that's the EndNote export option? I only get that if I export as ".txt" (maybe some other format). If I export for EndNote, I get something like this:
    <1. >
    VN - Ovid Technologies
    DB - Ovid MEDLINE(R)
    UI - 19125362
    ST - MEDLINE
    AU - Gerritsen MJ
    AU - De Rie MA
    AU - Beljaards RC
    AU - Thissen MR
    ...
  • Yes it is .txt. I thought that was what you requested. If I use EndNote export option, the reference does not get imported into Zotero. If I open the downloaded file with text editor, here is what I get.

    <7. >

  • If you copy the text above (starting with <7. >), go to Zotero gear menu and select Import from Clipboard, the reference does not import?

@Dan, is everything up to date in 1798387758 ?

I am experiencing the same problem and it is quite frustrating. The Zotero browser export button provides the same error message as reported above when trying in Firefox or in Chrome (with the Standalone) when using PsycINFO on OVID. Following the same steps in MEDLINE on OVID works. The translator issue is problematic only with PsycINFO. If I try exporting results from PsycINFO as RIS and then importing with Zotero, they import as Web pages and not as articles as mentioned above. I tried copying and pasting the EndNote output above and it worked. When I tried doing the same with more than one reference, Zotero gave me this error message: "An error occurred while trying to import the selected file. Please ensure that the file is valid and try again."

I teach Zotero frequently. However, with psychology students, I need to show them that Zotero can work well with PsycINFO on OVID, but, at the moment, this problem is quite frustrating.

As for OVID, they have this PDF available: http://ovidsupport.custhelp.com/ci/fattach/get/680847/1339091055/redirect/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDM5OTk2OTI4L3NpZC9BZzExdGp1bQ==/filename/Exporting%20to%20%20Zotero.pdf

They recommend using the Zotero browser add-in, but alas, with PsycINFO, it just doesn't work.

Is there anyone who might be able to look into this again and figure out what's going on?

    Thanks!
