British Library Import

Hi,
I'm trying to import from the British Library (BL) catalogue, using Firefox and the Zotero plug-in. Zotero will import part of the information - author, contents, title - but not references or some other fields that are important.
If I use the drop down menu on the webpage
(like on this page: http://searcharchives.bl.uk/primo_library/libweb/action/display.do?tabs=detailsTab&ct=display&fn=search&doc=IAMS040-002017951&indx=1&recIds=IAMS040-002017951&recIdxs=0&elementId=0&renderMode=poppedOut&displayMode=full&frbrVersion=&dscnt=0&frbg=&scp.scps=scope%3A%28BL%29&tab=local&dstmp=1436367845798&srt=rank&mode=Basic&&dum=true&vl(freeText0)=Add.%20MS%2045240&vid=IAMS_VU2) and try and open an RIS file, my standalone Zotero says that the format is not supported.
I tried all the known translator issues - I was using Chrome and its connector was working well with every other site, I moved to Firefox and the zotero plug-in and they are all up to date.
Any help on this would be appreciated!
Thanks.
  • not sure what you mean by "references" -- there's no such field in Zotero.
I can't open the link above, could you get us a permalink to a relevant item? (in the same menu as the RIS)

the BL RIS export isn't in a valid format (RIS must start with a type tag, TY -, which isn't the case).
  • So this seems to be specific to archival holdings - here's the permalink of a representative archival document - http://searcharchives.bl.uk/IAMS_VU2:IAMS040-002017951
In this case, when I "Save to Zotero" it fills only the title, author, and date fields. What I mean by "reference" would be equivalent to "Call Number" or "Loc. in Archive."

And there is no way to use the BL RIS export for Zotero?
  • we just use a generic catalog import for the system (Primo) used by BL -- we can see if we can grab some of the archive-specific data with that. Otherwise, someone would have to write a specific translator, which could then use the RIS or any other source.
  • Got it, thanks!
