Items types and fields

There is somes discussions in this forum to introduce items types edition, but it seems that feature has not been introduce yet. At the moment, some item types like "These" does not allow the ISBN or Location fields. I would like to change that for my needs, but Zotero does not allow it.

    There are reoccurring conversations on customizing item types, but if custom item types do come it wont be for quite some time. If you are particularly passionate about creating a edition item type your best bet would be to lobby for it here in the forums. The issue with ISBN fields for theses and dissertations has resulted in a ticket. See this discussion and this ticket. It is also worth noting that your request touches on another big issue, for lack of a better term, commonly referred to as hierarchical relationships between items.

    So, the question is why should editions have their own item type? Why wont another kind of item work?
