Thanks. I notice that there is a 'multiple sources' button at the bottom left in the add/edit citation window. This feature makes it easy to merge citations.
well, you still can't merge - this works essentially the same way in the classic dialog (which is what you're looking at with the multiple source button) or the quick format dialog that I link to - you can't merge existing citations, but you can quickly add multiple items to a single citation.
Often one needs to add a citation or two to an existing citation...just want to confirm that
a) if you add citations to an existing set of 2 or more citations in text, the numeric references will not be updated...so that if you initially had 1-3 listed as citations, and add two more references, it will appear as "1-34,5" in the text, and there is no way to get this to update to 1-5 short of deleting all citations at that spot, then adding all 5 at once, a time consuming process.
b) when adding citations using the quick dialog, if the Zotero add citation quick search result shows three references, and you want all three, you must choose each one of the three sequentially...you can't use Ctrl-Select or Ctrl-A to bring each item into the quick dialog box.
Note: I'm using the latest version of Firefox, with the latest version of the Zotero plugin for Word 2010. Thank you in advance for any help in using Zotero.
a) incorrect. If you use edit citation and add the two additional citations, you go from 1-3 to 1-5. If that's not the case either you're not using edit citations or you're hitting a bug.
b) correct.
thank you, this caused me to learn how Edit Citation works..highlight the citation(s) (the gray highlighted text), then select edit citation, and those citations appear in the citation editor window, where you can add more, etc.

but you can't merge adjacent citations in a document if that's what you mean, no.
