Upgrade StorageHow to reinstall Zotero, and recover saved data folder?
Mac OS X 10.5 / Firefox 3.0.5 - Zotero - always the latest stable release
Wanted to store Z data folder on USB stick. Found instructions here on these forums. Copied the data folder to the USB flash drive there from the Firefox Profile directory. In Zotero prefs --> Advanced prefs, I set Custom path to data folder. Pointed Zotero on my laptop to the stick as well. All of which seemed to be working perfectly.
Now can't seem to get into Zotero at all. (yellow triangle icon - JavaScript - Error opening zotero). Have tried copying the Z data folder from the USB stick to the Firefox profile; and also stop firefox --> deleting the Z data folder --> restarting firefox hoping to get an 'empty' zotero structure I could at least access. no luck.
Now, I can't even seem to start from scratch. I close firefox. delete the zotero data folder. start firefox. uninstal zotero. stop firefox. start firefox. download and install zotero. restart firefox, and there is that yellow triangle.
Obviously I've mangled something. I my folder on the USB stick. I just need to be able to get it back in touch with Zotero - from the default firefox profile would be fine.

See Troubleshooting Zotero Data for the basics, though it sounds like you understand how things work. Note that, even if you can't open Zotero, you can still access the Zotero preferences by right-clicking on the extension in Tools->Add-ons->Extensions.
Assuming you have the custom data directory configured correctly, follow the steps in the Advanced Instructions section of the Reporting Bugs page and let us know what appears in the Error Console.
