Is it possible to memorise university library details in Zotero account?

Hi,I am a relatively new user to Zotero, so I would appreciate help on this. Hopefully, there is already a known way to tackle my problem.

I have a research assistant in another country and I would like him to download PDFs of my library. However, I do not want to share my university log-in with him. Most of the papers require a university library log-in. If I give him my Zotero account details, can he download the papers without putting the university credentials?

Putting differently, is it possible to memorise the university library details in Zotero account?
  • I would suggest for you to use a private group, where you can grant your colleague access (but nobody else). For that you need to activate/check file syncing, and therefore it will count aggainst your quota (currently 300 MB for free).
  • I might be misunderstanding the question, but zuphilip's answer only helps if you or he already has downloaded the files, which doesn't sound like it's the case.

If you want him to download the PDFs from databases, you can't use Zotero to remember any login data other than it's own -- but assuming that he'll be accessing the articles through some type of proxy, you may be able to use his browser's built-in functionality: You just type in the password once for a proxied article, set the browser to remember, and he should be able to keep using it.
  • you may be able to use his browser's built-in functionality
Marco didn't want to share the password, though.

I'd say this is more a question for your university IT department. If you have a research assistant, see if they'll give him proxy access. Zotero can help you share files, but it doesn't have anything to do with authentication with your proxy server.
  • well, in the case of Northwestern, e.g., the same password is used for access to resources (which Marco does appear to want to share) and access to confidential things like e-mail, class/grade lists, the course management system and more.

They all run through different interfaces, though, so using "remember password" for the proxy would work if you just want to share that.
Similarly, using VPN and remembering the password would work.
  • Marco specifically doesn't want to share the password. Saving a password in a browser is tantamount to giving someone that password, because it's accessible through the browser interface. Also, I'm not sure how your suggestion makes sense if the RA is remote.

This is really a question for the university IT department.
