Citations corrupted

Hi there,
I realised that the citations in my report are corrupted, leading them to appear messed up.

Of course, my report is due today. I had switched to Zotero after a similar mishap in Endnote...

I have tried "Debugging broken documents". What should I do?

  • I have an error report: 1393338612

Thanks a lot if you can help!

  • I have tried "Debugging broken documents".
    And what happened?
  • I'm going through the whole report trying to figure out where the issues are. It seems that there are many corrupted references. Basically if I have one of those reference, it complely messes up the footnotes. Including their numbers (e.g. they jump from 80 to 92, or several times 82). This is an extract from a mangled citation: ],"uri":["http://zotero.org/groups/261858/items/HI7HG7BC"],"itemData":{"id":9065,"type":"webpage","title":""

    Point by point:
1 - did "approve all track changes
2 - I had an caption in an image, and removed it.
    3 - tried and didn't work
    4 - did that
5 - tried switching to (author-date) and it actually put the (author date) reference in the foot note (in each footnote, the author date reference for that citation. The problem remained in the area of the document that has issues.
    6 - no bibliography
    7 - did that (see above: 1393338612)
8 - I've started doing that, but it takes ages. I've isolated About 6 pages where the issue seems to be located. I've tried to copy/paste back sections and remove the references that were corrupted. But sometimes it seems to work and then the problem comes back. Then, even if I remove the section I've just added, the citations are still mangled. (
    9 - doesn't seem to do anything.

I've also tried to remove the link with Zotero, as at this point I'd rather finish manually than spend too long on trying to fix it.

Zotero has been really good so far and I've recommended it to many many people, but I've been working on this report for 3 months and it's due right now... :(

    Thanks
    Emmanuel
  • I finally managed to fix the document (I think) by cutting out the part, then adding back (copy/paste) from the original document, while removing references that seemed corrupted. It worked, but I spent about 3hours on this at a stressful time...

Is there a way to avoid this ever occurring again?

    Emmanuel
  • If you don't mind sending a small part of the document with example corrupted citations in it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread, we can take a look and see if we can figure out how this happened. Unfortunately these things are sometimes due to bugs in Word's field/footnote handling.
  • I'd like to. Who would it be shared with?

    Emmanuel
  • Just the staff Zotero developers.
