Problems installing LO plugin

I needed to use Zotero for citations in an academic paper, for the first time in about three years. It was no longer on my system (probably due to a combination of numerous upgrades of both Firefox and LibreOffice, and a hard disk crash) so I reinstalled it, and the LO plug-in, and began creating my library.

The first problem was that neither Insert Citation nor any other button worked. I've tried reinstalling the LO plug-in several times, and just get a series of error messages: "Installation could not be completed because an error occurred. Please ensure that LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org/NeoOffice is closed, and then restart Firefox." etc. One error message suggested incompatibility with Java Runtime Environment, so I went through the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of that. Still no joy.

Oh, and the Zotero buttons in LO are now words rather than icons. But they still don't work.

After several hours fighting with this, I gave up and typed in all the citations and the bibliography by hand; it was quicker.

I see that other people have recently had similar problems, but I don't see any clear solution. Can anyone help? I'm about to start work on a new book and will really need Zotero to be as efficient and reliable as it always used to be.

I'm using FF 38.0.1 and LO 4.3.7.2.
  • what operating system?
  • Vista -- I think "Vista Home".
  • One further thought: as the Zotero word "icons" aren't working, how can I remove them from my toolbar? i.e. un-plug-in Zotero from LibreOffice...
  • Hello everybody, helloDVB !
Same symptoms for me on the beginning, but I use Windows 7 Starter and I updated to LO 4.4.3.2

First, I had no icons in the menu of Zotero within LO 4.3,
and now I have no Zotero menu at all within LO 4.4.3.2.

When I try to install the extension in Firefox, it seems to be ok, but it does not change anything in LO.

When I try to install by double clicking on Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt, it crashes LO...
    If somebody could help ?
