finding new location of linked filed on laptop

I am a new zotero user. I just linked a whole file full of pdfs from my laptop to zotero. I like the zotero feature of tags that will enable me to shuffle and organize these. But I also did some reordering to my files on my laptop without realizing that zotero would not be able to find all my recently linked documents. I am frustrated that once an article is linked to zotero I can't move it anywhere else in my laptop files. am I missing something or is this a major limitation?

    I'm not sure how Zotero is supposed to keep track of linked files that you move around outside of Zotero. So yes, this is a limitation, but I wouldn't really call it major (I don't think I've seen anyone else bring this up on the forums before).

    If you want to move your files around based on metadata in Zotero, then that's possible using ZotFile plugin for Zotero. Other than that, I don't see any way we can improve this.

    thanks. am i right in seeing that zotfile works only with firefox and not safari?

    ZotFile can be installed in the Standalone version of Zotero, too. Instructions are on zotfile.com

    ZotFile works with Zotero. Zotero can be installed either as a Firefox extension or as a separate program (Zotero Standalone). If you're using Zotero in Safari, you're probably also using Zotero Standalone. To install ZotFile in Zotero Standalone, download the ZotFile extension from their website (xpi file), then go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Gear menu (top right corner) -> Install Add-on from file... and select the xpi file you downloaded.
