Address bar icon not visible

Hello,

I have newly started using Zotero ... it is a great addon. On seeing the snapshots I notice that there should be a address bar icon visible. I am not seeing that icon in my firefox.

Is everthing allright or is this feature removed in current version ?

The icon appears when the browser is pointed at a page containing one or more references that Zotero recognizes and is able to download automatically. The icon should appear when you click on this link (for example).

[Update: Sorry for being of no use on this, I missed the fact that LOC depends on cookies set when entering the site from the top level. Ouch.]
  • this is precisely the problem. I am not seeing any zotero icon on any site whatsoever. i wud like to add one information, if that is relevant. I am accessing from a university network which sits behind a proxy. this proxy does some funny things to some other extensions like flagfox. strangely for all the aggressive filtering that our proxy does , it does not prohibit ANY porn sites (maybe becoz the admins themselves are too fond of prono).

is this problem also due to proxy ? if yes, is there a workaround ? our proxy does DNS querry itself and sheilds the browser from any DNS querries ... can this be taken care of in future releases of zotero ? zotero's features are too useful to waste becoz of a stupid proxy.

    developers please note ...
  • Actually, I don't get an icon on that LOC page either (though LOC pages work in general if I do a search). nirax, do you see an icon on this Amazon page or if you do a LOC search yourself?

I'm guessing you will. If those work, provide some other URLs that aren't working for you that you think should.

in amazon i see an icon but not in LOC
  • i think there is some issue with noscript. perhaps all the translaters should be added to allowed sites of noscript ...

some sites where zotero should work but i dont see any icon

    http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/
  • i think it should also work on ted.com and youtube.com
  • What are the steps you're taking to test LOC?

    front.match.ucdavis.edu is a custom front-end that isn't supported, though arxiv.org itself is.
  • sorry, i saw it on youtube too. actually it came late and i had already posted this comment.

now i also see it on LOC after searching.

thanks for the prompt response. and many many thanks for this excellent addon.
  • Unfortunately it's not enough to "think" that Zotero should work on a particular page—on many sites it requires custom translators that have to be written by a developer, though this situation may improve as sites start using embedded metadata standards.

There is a YouTube translator, as you noticed, but it appears to be broken (at least for me).
  • isn't there a way to update (or add) traslators a la wikipedia, where anybody can do the job over the web ? or at least some form of moderated updating.
  • A web-based system for increased community involvement in translator development is in the works. In the meantime, people can (and do) contribute new and updated translators to the dev list or (when there's an existing ticket) Trac.
  • i would be happy if i can help in this work. please tell me how to do it.
  • for other who are reading this: I have the same "problem" (can access only through Firefox / Extra / Zotero / click to start
  • @jos - different problem:
