database integrity

after updating Firefox to 3.0.5 Zotero 1.0.7 doesn't allow access to the database. Attempts to open the Zotero window as well by clicking the icon as by callling the menue result in the message

There was an error starting Zotero.

Running a database integrity check returns the message

Failed
Errors were found in the Zotero database!

Is there any way to recover the database?
  • Could you expand on "doesn't allow access"?

Follow the steps in the Advanced Instructions section of the Reporting Bugs page and let us know what appears in the Error Console.
  • the files zotero.sqlite, zotero.sqlite-journal and all the storage folders exist and are accessible by file management tools.

Booting Zotero itself by booting the browser seems to work as the icon appears correctly at the bottom of the browser.

Clicking the icon returns the error message as above. The error console is not available as Zotero does not become visible. All I can do is using the "ad-ons" menue provided by firefox.

Attempts to run an integrity check using the Zotero function found there returns the databse error.

Reinstalling Zotero didn't bring any progress.
  • update: sorry, I got confused about the error console!

    The Firefox error console shows

Failed to load XPCOM component: /Users/rhh/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/3lsud4zx.default/extensions/{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}/components/filterManager.idl

Not sure whether or not this is about Zotero
  • Do you have other addons that may be causing the conflict? Try disabling them one by one.
  • Please try disabling other extensions, as Mark suggests, but, if that doesn't fix it, delete the files compreg.dat and xpti.dat from your Firefox profile directory (with Firefox closed) and then try again to see if additional errors appear in the Error Console.
  • ok. I will try both suggestions.

In the meantime after several reboots of the computer and Firefox Zotero bootet and opened its view to the database.

It shows the main structure of my library while still not showing any of the books. Instead I now receive the error message

An error has occured. Please restart Firefox.
    You can report....

which I did receiving error ID 2116818561
  • disabling other extensions and rebooting didn't help

removing the 2 files just ended up with the error message

There was an error starting Zotero.
  • It's actually returning a few different errors, including an Access Denied error, but you can try running your database through the DB Repair Tool.
