Identifying collection in which item resides after search

I don't know if Zotero can't do this, or I haven't been able to find how to do it. I'm using the Zotero 4.0.26.4 plugin in Firefox running in Linux. I have "recursiveCollections" set to true.

Say I know I have a paper somewhere in my library, but can't recall in which collection/subcollection. I search for it using the search field, and find it in the list on the right. Now I want to now in which collection or subcollection it actually resides, because (for example) I want to add a new item there.

How do I get that information? If I right-click on the item after searching I don't get any option that will show me where it resides in my library! If I click on advanced search instead of using the search field, I still cannot do it. If I double-click on the item after search, it becomes highlighted in my library but in the "root collection" (that is in "My library").

For some reason, I need to do this a lot and it frustrates me. If it's actually not possible, I would request it as a new feature.

  • Thanks, I feel like an idiot. I *really* tried that before and didn't work no matter how long I waited, so I assumed it was referring to something else.

I suspect there's a bug somewhere, so I'll keep an eye to see if I can trigger that behaviour again.
  • It doesn't currently jump to the collection, so if it's out of sight in a large collection tree, that's a bit inconvenient and may have lead you to miss it. (I've also seen reports of it being less reliable on Windows, but not for a long time so I thought that was fixed).
