change from absolute to relative links

Hi,
I am storing all my pdfs in a dropbox, following my own organizing structure, and use absolute path to link them to my zotero database.

I now also start using zotero on a different computer and sync the database via the sync function.

In order to also be able to access the pdfs from the second computer, I would have to change from absolute to relative links.

So my question is: If I simply define the folder I use for the pdfs as base directory, will all absolute links automatically be transformed into relative links? Or will zotero only set relative links starting from that moment and I will still have to set new links for all existing files? If this is the case, is there any solution for this?

Thanks a lot in advance!

this. Note that you'll have to do this on every one of your computers, of course (since the base directory is going to be different on each machine--that's the whole point, after all).
  • Worked, thank you!
  • If I change from absolute to relative links, on a database with about 1500 items, how long should this take? It's been about an hour and Zotero/Firefox status is "not responding". Also, would it be faster if I did this in Zotero Standalone?
  • Well, I forced shut down Firefox and then couple hours later re-did the change to relative paths and it took half a minute. Not sure why it hung up the first time.
