"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer"

I am getting the following zotero pop up message when undertaking various actions (e.g. saving reference, adding an attachment):

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator"

Nothing has changed on my computer. I have also not been on the network during the last week so there is no chance that an update has taken effect and affected it.

Although I am getting the message, the action seems to complete OK, but I am concerned about why I am getting this message and what it's impact may be.
  • On some (but not all) occasions when this message appears, zotero is freezing (little blue circle). When I close down zotero, I get the message, "XUL runner is not responding". Sorry if this isn't relevant, but having trouble using the software now, and hope you can help.
  • different issue than Scopus. Dan will take a look at this. Can you provide an error report ID after triggering this, please?

Does this happen when you click Reindex in the right-hand pane of a PDF attachment?

And assuming the answer is yes, I'm guessing this is a work computer with VBScript disabled?

4.0.26.4, released earlier today, should fix this.
  • I've got the new update, but was still having problems so ran two reports from chrome (standalone was freezing until I closed it down, so can't run one from there).

    Report IDs : 187435589 and 689957195

I think (cautiously!) that the problem has disappeared however. I have just managed to save reference without freezing, but am submitting the above errors just in case this reoccurs or is helpful to you. Did you just fix something your end?
  • OK problem is back. Chrome report ID 950724001.

standalone freezes when capturing reference e.g. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0738399107000961 .

There was no PDF attached to this one, so I don't think it is related to the PDF.
  • I am no longer getting the original error message in the title of this thread. Just freezing up and having to shut down when I try to capture a reference. Then I get the message "XUL runner is not responding" ...
  • Shall I start a new thread?

This problem seems to be intermittant - some references are causing it to freeze and others not. This one is:

Could this be a chrome translator issue? I notice that in the above example, the translator icon at first appeared as a webpage capture icon (and froze the system). When I went back to it again, it had loaded as a journal article and will now save.

I am not having any other problems with speed or running of chrome. Internet connection is fine.
  • Should I try reinstalling the chrome extension?

Yes, you should start a new thread.
