unable to load LO linking to Zotero

Using Win 7, 64 bit. Using Java 7 Update 75 32 bit and only have 32 bit java on my system, deleted all other java and from registry, installed and reinstalled LO Version: 4.4.2.2. Also reinstalled Zotero 4.0.26.2 Tried to link to LO from Zotero. That fails with: You are about to install version 3.5.9 of the extension 'Zotero LibreOffice Integration'.
The older version 0, named 'Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt', is already installed.
Click 'OK' to replace the installed extension.
Click 'Cancel' to stop the installation

I click OK (of course this add on is not working and in addition I have been unable to remove it, it persists across re-installations of LO) and get:
(com.sun.star.lang.IllegalArgumentException) { { { Message = "Cannot detect media-type: file:///C:/Users/John/AppData/Roaming/LibreOffice/4/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/luqe5c.tmp_/Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt", Context = (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @7abe518 } }, ArgumentPosition = (short) -1 }

The actual .oxt file sits: ...../Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt/zotero/Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt
I have tried an older version of LO and am now thinking of going back to LO 3.5, the last version which worked that I know the version number; but would that work with version 7 java?. I need Zotero integration more than any later version of LO.
Any help to solve this greatly appreciated.
I had a similar problem a year ago with LO 4.2 and went back to 3.5 I think then. So it may be in my system somewhere but I have had Zotero working with a more up to date version. Hope someone can help.
Yours John
  • This is not a LO version problem. I have Zotero integration working under basically the same setup, though with Java 8.

Could you specify exactly what you're doing when you're getting this:
You are about to install version 3.5.9 of the extension 'Zotero LibreOffice Integration'.
The older version 0, named 'Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt', is already installed.
Click 'OK' to replace the installed extension.
Click 'Cancel' to stop the installation
? Does that happen when you're reinstalling the LO add-on from the Cite tab of the Zotero preferences?
  • Adamsmith thank you for your response.
From Zotero cite; re install libre office; auto install fails; so using manual install; clicking opens file location for .oxt file; click on file and it opens LO; which opens LO extension manager and gives the "you are about to install....." notice.
I am wondering whether the extension has failed at some point during a previous version of LO and failed to delete yet something lodges within the LO settings stopping both deletion and prevents re installation. Even after re installation of LO.
  • Yes, that really does sound like the problem is the old version that's not deleting properly. To be honest, I'd have to start digging through LO support for that, too--I'd try asking on their support forums. I suspect this isn't that unusual.

FWIW, what's the message you're getting when automatic install fails? Could be that an error report ID submitted right afterwards: http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs#provide_a_report_id would help, too.
