Failed synchronization

Hey!
I've been using Zotero daily for the past few months, and initially my colleagues and I were able to get updates from each other all the time. It stopped sync'ing a while back and we kinda continued working separately and delayed dealing with the problem.
HOWEVER, now, somehow I got signed off my account (linked to Firefox) and I lost all my data. I tried logging in again, and it's been sync'ing for the past 4-5 hours (I tried rebooting after waiting 3 hours) and it the sync' arrow/button keeps telling "last sync'ed 66 days ago" (which is about accurate to when we started having trouble)..
What can I do to recover my files ASAP???
Even signing in to my online account, it says I have 4000+ pages of 25 articles each (all mixed together) while I actually have now about 300 articles (after all the deletions I've made) - but seems my online and firefox accounts didn't sync' together either!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Not sure what you mean here — the Zotero client isn't something you get "signed off" of, since it's just a local database on your computer. If you mean that you ended up with an empty Zotero database, see Where did my items go? to find the database you were previously using.

From the looks of it, your Zotero is trying to download all data since January, and for you that's a massive amount that will quite likely never finish in the current version of Zotero. (The next major version of Zotero will handle extremely large libraries better.)

So start by trying to find the database you were using previously, and then you can try to resolve the sync error with that.

(As a side note, delaying resolving a sync error is usually a very bad idea, particularly in a group library, since you can end up with many conflicts, and it also means that Zotero has to sync much more data at once. But once you find your previous database we can see what the issue is there.)
  • thanks for the answer

by clicking on preferences in Zotero for Firefox, I found that I needed to sign in again - which I did. that happened after I downloaded skype to my laptop and I got an alert to accept some connectors... if that's in anyway related. that's the only change that happened from last time I used it that I can think ok.

I left zotero to sync for the whole night and downloaded it on another laptop either to see if it's my laptop or what.... nothing!! actually signing in to my account through the website (like here where I can also access the forums), this is where I find 2 of my original folders (empty) and a total of 4436 articles (not 25 x 4436) - prior to me going through them and doing the sorting/deletions/etc.

Again, hovering my mouse over the sync icon in zotero (which is still turning) says ("last sync 66 days ago") - I don't know if it's a proxy issue, a file location, a file extention... I really can't tell what's going on, and how can I fix it and get my most updated data. thanks!

No, again, Zotero doesn't work this way. There's no "signing in". Zotero has a local database with data on your computer, and it syncs with the server based on credentials you enter in the prefs. If you previously had data locally and it's not there, then you're looking a different data directory — or in your case, possibly an entirely different Firefox profile, since it sounds like you lost your settings as well. The link I provided above has advice for finding the database that you were using previously. There's no other way you're going to be able to see your data, given the current size of your online library.
