Adding PDF file to library from websites Report ID:207398782

I have a Mac. I use Chrome I have the latest Zotero verison and I am a new user.

This is the report ID of an issue that is arising when I am adding files (PDFs) to my library from the web page.
Report ID:207398782

When I have found the article I want I click on the Zotero icon but it only downloads the snapshot into my library.

I have authorised zotero to connect to chrome and have preferences set to automatically download PDF. Do I need to do anything else? Should I not be using chrome? Can someone help :)
  • we need a URL for which that's happening. PDF download is site dependent.

    Is this what you mean?
  • that should work & does for me.
Could you try when you're on campus and can access the resource without the proxy, i.e. the ezproxy.ub.unimaas.nl part?

Can you provide a debug ID (different from error report) from Chrome for an attempt to download that article:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_chrome_and_safari
  • Here is the the Debug ID: D2064231719

I'll check later today to see if it works without the proxy.

    Cheers.

  • I think I know what's going on.
could you describe what exactly you see on:
    http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com.ezproxy.ub.unimaas.nl/doi/10.1111/1468-0491.00178/pdf

Is it just the PDF, or is there a bar above the PDF with publication information?

@aurimas -- I think this is that weird situation were Wiley displays PDFs differently on a Mac. Do you have any new thoughts on this?
  • So when I click on the zotaro addon/plugin next to the URL it only downloads the 'snapshot' to my library. So I only have the reference information in my library not the actual PDF.

However this problem doesn't occur when I use JSTOR or other databases. Mainly when I use Wiley, does this problem occur.

Thanks for you help so far!
  • we understand that. I'm asking you what you see in your browser, not in Zotero, on that page.
  • Sorry I miss understood, yeah I am only seeing the PDF.
  • OK, so the problem is that the page is looking differently on Chrome for Mac than on other operating systems (including Chrome on Windows and Linux). We'll try to come up with a solution, but until then I unfortunately don't have anything better than manually attaching the PDF to the item after importing it (you can drag the URL to Zotero Standalone from Chrome to add a PDF).
This does not, as far as we're aware, affect any other pages than Wiley.
  • Hi,

I've come across this problem as well - Chrome on Mac, at Wiley, no PDF download.

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is it has to do with Wiley's introduction of their "Readcube" system as a replacement for direct PDF access. When going to the PDF, you first get a rotating Readcube logo, then the PDF is loaded.

I believe automatic PDF import was working at Wiley before.

I pushed a patch that _may_ fix this issue. Please update your translators via Zotero Preferences -> General -> Update Now, restart your browser, and try again. Let us know if this works or not. If it doesn't work, please submit a Debug log from Zotero (not the browser) covering the import attempt. https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output
  • Thanks aurimas, much appreciated!

Looks like it didn't work, I submitted the debug log, ID is D549787310.
  • Aurimas: No attempt to save a PDF there, just abstract.html.
  • Oops. I forgot to actually push the fix. Sorry about that. Should be available now. Please follow my instructions above to update.
  • Aurimas - awesome, works! Thanks a lot!
  • in case that wasn't clear @Invanovic -- that should work for you too, now, after following the update instructions.
