Not Saving

I have Zotero standalone for Chrome and Zotero in browser for Firefox. I have restarted Firefox, and then have restarted Chrome and Zotero standalone and both of them are not saving my items. The icon to save is in the browser and the library is viewable but when I click on the icon, the item does not save to Zotero. Note, I am trying to save items from JSTOR.
  • when you save, the pop-up that says "Saving to Zotero" at the bottom right, does it list the title of the item you're saving or not?
  • It does not. It just says "Saving to library"
  • OK, let's try to narrow this down. Use just Firefox and close down Zotero Standalone. Try to save again. If that doesn't work, provide an error report ID
    https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems#provide_a_report_id
from Zotero for Firefox right afterwards (copy&paste the number of the error report here).
  • Okay I quit the standalone one am just using the Firefox add on now. Here's the report ID for it 1680983962
  • Thanks, we'll need to wait for Dan to take a look at that.

[JavaScript Error: "www.jstor.org.ezproxy.umw.edu:443 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for the following names:
    *.umw.edu, umw.edu, ezproxy.umw.edu

    (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)
Hmm, that domain (or any others for different publications) shouldn't work at all from your browser unless you've manually whitelisted it or you're clicking through a scary warning each time.

If that's not the case, it's possible Zotero is mishandling your proxy server. When you browser JSTOR via your proxy, what's an example URL you see on an article page?
  • http://www.jstor.org.ezproxy.umw.edu/stable/189251?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=the&searchText=peach&searchText=girl,&searchText=Ruan&searchText=Lingyu&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dthe%2Bpeach%2Bgirl%252C%2BRuan%2BLingyu%26amp%3Bprq%3Dthe%2Bpeach%2Bgirl%26amp%3Bgroup%3Dnone%26amp%3Bso%3Drel%26amp%3Bwc%3Don%26amp%3Bacc%3Don%26amp%3Bfc%3Doff%26amp%3Bhp%3D25&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents

It looks like that... should I not go through my university proxy when I try to save to Zotero?
  • Edit* Just tried to save without accessing JSTOR through my proxy and it saves!

No, you should go through the proxy, which should generally work. The issue is your library's proxy. JSTOR has recently started redirecting users over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Your library's proxy, however, is not configured properly to support this behavior. You can see the issue by trying to access https://www.jstor.org.ezproxy.umw.edu/stable/189251 (note the https). You should report this to your library.
  • Okay! Will do. Thank you!!!
