Problem importing cochrane into Zotero

Hi,

I am trying to import my search from cochrane into Zotero standalone, but it does not work. It says that it does not recognize .txt. But I can't download my search any other way. Can you help?

Thanks!
  • do you not get a URL bar Icon for Cochrane? That works. The (non-standard) format they export won't import into Zotero, that's correct.
  • Uhm I fear I'm not very good on computers. What do you mean by URL bar Icon for cochrane?
  • I'm talking about:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library#web_translators
  • Okay thanks! I have the standalone version but without opera, so I don't have the URL bar icon. What should I do?
  • not clear what you mean "without opera"? Which browser are you using? This works with everything but Internet Explorer.
  • Oh I see now! sorry! Um I use Firefox, but not Zotero for Firefox. And I don't have a a bar icon. Should I try with chrome?
  • install Zotero for Firefox. You'll still be able to use Standalone the way you're used to, but you'll get the URL bar icon (install from zotero.org/download)
  • Okay I will try that! Thank you!
  • It worked, I have the icon in my URL bar and Zotero standalone is syncronized with firefox. I have a search of little more than 200 items. But the icon in the bar is not a map but a book/page. Can I change something so I can use the option zotero item selector?
  • that should just work -- could you run through the steps you perform (you don't need to describe the search in all details, but which boxes you have checked on the left and what you click on).
  • I made a search in search manager of 3 items. I selected cochrane reviews: all and also limited to trials.
  • So, do you see the search results at the bottom of the screen or not? Whenever you see a list of actually search results, I have Zotero displaying the folder.

I may need more step-by-step directions on what you're actually doing
  • yes I see the actual search results. I have # 3 is #1 AND #2. gives 233 results. When I click on the numer 233, i get the results a litte down the page, but I dont get a folder in the URL bar, it remains just the white page icon.
  • odd. When you hover over the URL bar icon in Firefox, does it say "Save to Zotero (Wiley Online Library)" or something else?

When you click on the icon, what happens?

Which Firefox version are you using? (about firefox in the help menu of firefox).

Could you try with all other Firefox add-ons disabled (and restart Firefox).
  • It does say save to Zotero, but still i can only save one article at the time. I use the newest version of firefox. I will try that now!
  • It didn't work, I still don't have the folder as an icon.
  • Could you try with Standalone closed? This will still save to the same Zotero library.
  • Also, could you please answer adamsmith's questions above
When you hover over the URL bar icon in Firefox, does it say "Save to Zotero (Wiley Online Library)" or something else?
    exactly what message appears?
Which Firefox version are you using? (about firefox in the help menu of firefox)
  • I tried it with standalone closed. But still no folder.
When I hover over it it says save to Zotero (DOI) and I'm using version 35.0.1. Thank u so much btw for all your help so far! Really appreciate it!

When I hover over it it says save to Zotero (DOI)
oh good, that's the problem then, so we need to figure out why.
What's the URL you're seeing on that page?
If you click through to an individual item (i.e. just click on one of the search results), do you still get a URL bar icon? If you hover over that, what does that say?
  • https://c1bhnpjgann7v9r3coddendagh.amc-literatuur.amc.nl/cochranelibrary/search/advanced/ is the link.

I also get a icon when I click on one individual article, and it keeps on saying save in sotero (DOI)
  • there we go, that's the problem. Are you not able to access Cochrane through http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/cochranelibrary/search/advanced ?
  • Uhm well, i tried that and indeed there is the folder! But now I'm not allowed to see abstracts. And when I try to download an article intp zotaro via the selecting mathod, I get the error (at the right underside of my desktop): (translated) 'There has been and error in saving this item. See troubleshooting translator issue for more information.'

Also, there used to be an 'open padlock icon' next to every single article, but they are gone now. I guess I only have access because of the login via my university?
  • I do have similar problems when trying to import search results from the Cochrane library. I am using Firefox 35.0.1 under Windows 7 and Zotero version 4.0.26. In the URL bar of
    http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/cochranelibrary/search/advanced
the "folder" icon of Zotero appears, and the dialogue where you can select the items opens, but then there is an error message "problem with translator". Astonishingly, sometimes (!) some items are exported (but not all), and sometimes not.
  • Could you take this to a new thread, please - same site, but issues aren't quite the same and I don't want to confuse the two.
Ideally, try to narrow down for what type of items this does and doesn't work.
