Zotero crashes

Hi-
I've tried to back up my Zotero library three times and each time it's crashed. In general, I've had no problem with backing up in the past, so I'm not sure what's going on. (Specs: Mac OSX 10.9.5). After checking the Report Error option, it looks like it has something to do with JavaScript: i.e., [JavaScript Error: "bad script XDR magic number"]. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks.
  • Can you explain exactly what you're trying to do and what's happening?

  • Sure thing. I click on the Gear icon>Export Library>Select format as CSV and check/select the tick-box 'Export Notes' and then click Ok. Then after waiting 3-4 minutes, it hangs and is unresponsive. At that point I Force-Quit the app. Thanks.
  • just let it run. Large exports take time and unresponsive isn't the same as a crash. If this takes more than 10 minutes, something is likely wrong.

But note that, anyway, export as CSV is completely useless as a back-up--Zotero can't even re-import that.

  • Oh, okay, thanks. So I guess I'll go with the default (Zotero>RDF). Just curious: why is the csv listed as an option if it's "useless" as a backup? Thanks.
  • No, read the link. Don't export as a back-up at all.
And why CSV is an option? because people want to export for other purposes than back-up: organization, data analysis, transfer to other software etc.
