Fieldnotes and photos question

I have recently started using Zotero to organize my secondary literature reviews and find it awesome. Its ability to create to linkages between key texts, passages and tags, and to organize those thematically is a godsend.

Here's my question: I have a large trove of fieldnotes, interview transcriptions, and digital photos, which I would like to link up to the meaningful webs of information that I am currently creating in Zotero (through my readings of the secondary literature).

Does it make sense to incorporate these self-generated documentary materials directly into Zotero? I hesitate to do so though because I am worried about flooding the library with these self-generated documentary materials.

Does anyone have any experience using Zotero to organize large volumes of documentary materials of this type together with their library? Alternatively, is there a better source, like Scribe, for handling this type of data?

  • It is a great idea to start incorporating your self-generated documentary materials directly into Zotero. You can use collections to manage the different types of information. By creating collections and sub-collections for different kinds of materials you can avoid flooding Zotero. I have found the ability to quickly make these collections makes it very easy to keep primary sources, secondary sources and notes all together in one tool. This way you get the best of both worlds.
