Extract metadata from pdf file properties

Hi,

can Zotero import metadata (eg. title of the document, author, and object) from pdf document properties ?

    Zotero can retrieve PDF metadata, but it does so based on internet searches, not on document properties.

    Using document properties is, at this point, not a terribly worthwhile strategy. There's just too much nonsense in the XMP tags of PDFs.

    Agree, however, internet searches are good for peer reviewed articles (google scholar), but for more general documents, I end up setting properties manually, while they are already tidily written in the tags of PDFs.

    I think a separate function could help in organizing a more general library

    yeah, but as I say--there's just too much nonsense in XMP tags (the name of the admin assistance who compiled the doc as "author" and the like) for this to be a useful strategy across the board and Zotero devs don't really believe in making these things hyper-customizable.

    It's obviously technically doable, people could even write a plugin for it, but I don't think it's going happen any time soon from the Zotero side.
