Zotero Not Refreshing

Hello, I changed one of my sources and clicked on REFRESH, but unfortunately ZOTERO is not refreshing. I know it worked before, but now it is no longer updating the source. I am using a mac. Any idea how I can fix this problem?

Thanks! DMT
  • Can you edit the citation in Word/LibreOffice by positioning the cursor over it and selecting Edit Reference?
  • Yes. I am able to do that... Thank you so much for the reply; hopefully we can figure it out.
  • Then are you sure you're editing the correct citation in your Zotero library? Try searching for other (duplicate) references in your library by author and or title. Which word processor are you using?
  • I am using Microsoft Word in my mac. Here is what I am doing... I have several folders under my library. Currently, the folder THESIS is open with a large number of sources. I manually modified one of the sources and then go back to the document (while zotero library is open) and click on the refresh icon. Nothing happens :(

I just went to the library and did a search... there are no duplicates of the file.

I know for sure it worked before... but now it is not working. I also tried in a different document using a different set of sources under a different folder and it also did not update my changes.

    Thanks!
  • As a quick and dirty way to force an update (in case there's some sort of bug that's preventing it), you can try switching to a different style and then back.

If that doesn't work, in Word, find the citation that is not refreshing and press Option-F9, which will display field codes. In the field code, you will see something like {ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"iN1ukZ6S","properties":...,"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/275915/items/A9F4X98I"]... The 8 character letter/number combination in the URI (A9F4X98I) is the item key. Copy that key and search for it in your Zotero library (whole library) making sure to select All Fields & Tags as the search mode (drop-down arrow in the search field). If you can find it, make sure that the metadata has been updated. If you can't find it please post the whole URI here.

Are you using Zotero for Firefox or Zotero Standalone? Do you have both Firefox and Stadalone running at the same time? Which library are you editing your citations in?
  • Okay your first suggestion worked! :) I changed the item type and then back... voila!

How did you figure this out I am not sure, but I truly appreciate your help!

    Have a marvelous day!
