add citation window does not open on top

Hi,
I've got a couple of Firefox profiles set up (on Windows 7), with different zotero profiles attached to each, which allows me to do different peoples citations.
In one of them - my own, basically - when I click on the 'add citation' button (in libreoffice) the citation window pops up as the top layer, as it should.
In a different profile, it doesn't - meaning I have to click on the firefox icon and select the add citation window. Not the end of the world, but presumably easily fixable by a preference somewhere.
Is this a Firefox preference or a Zotero preference I need to change as I can't figure out what is set up differently between the two profiles that is causing the different behaviour.

Thanks,
Jon.
  • Are you actually using different profiles at the same time (with multiple running instances of Firefox)?
  • No - I figured that'd be a shortcut to disaster, so I use a profile switching add-on that always closes down Firefox before switching to the other profile.
  • OK, well I *think* I've fixed this.
Went through all the 'window' preferences in Firefox's about:config
Spotted the one that was different and changed it and now the citation window opens on top.

    browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction;0

it was set to '2' now it's '0' and all seems to be well, for the moment.
  • Hmm, can you post the other browser.link.open_newwindow values that you have set? browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction = 2 is what I have and everything is working properly, but since this property dictates what other browser.link.open_newwindow properties do, the combination may matter.
  • I spoke too soon. Turns out that if the add citation window has been selected once and I don't go back to Firefox, then when it's reopened, it opens on top. Add a citation to Zotero and it's back to opening underneath libreoffice.

Plus, I changed the setting to '0' in the profile that is behaving, and it made no difference.

So I'm back to being baffled and stuck.

check your extensions.zotero.integration.keepAddCitationDialogRaised preference. It's false by default and it shouldn't make a difference for opening the dialog initially (it just shouldn't let you hide the dialog after opening), but at the very least it could offer a workaround for you.

Edit: if it wasn't clear, try setting it to true.
  • OK, trying that, thanks for your suggestions. It's mostly behaving - and the irritation of it not behaving totally consistently is now being outweighed by the irritation of trying to *make* it behave consistently! :)
