zotero not working with firefox

Recently; as soon as i open up the zotero side window, the main window firefox crashes. Kindly give me a simple solution as I am amatuer at computers.Earlier zotero and firefox used to work in harmony.

By crash, do you mean that Firefox closes or does it just freeze up?

freezes and then has to be closed in order to restart to work again

How long have you let it sit frozen? Give it 10-15 mins. If it doesn't recover, let us know.

It just doesnt respond and the search function remains( cirulating circle).

So you've let it sit for 15 minutes in the unresponsive state? If so, submit a real-time debug log. https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#real-time_debug_output

How were you able to submit the debug log (not real-time debug log) if Zotero/Firefox remain frozen?

This debug output is mostly empty, so I suspect it was generated after restarting Firefox (which doesn't work).

But it does show many file sync errors. Those may or may not be related, but they likely mean that security software on your system is interfering with Zotero, and that could cause numerous problems. See here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/file_sync_errors

What version of firefox do I need? I get a message saying it's not compatible with firefox 30.0 so I tried 29.0 and gave the same message about 29.0

The oldest version with which Zotero works is the current ESR, which is currently at version 31: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

If you're going to use a regular Firefox release (as 29 and 30 are), you should be using the current version, right now 35. For anything more, please start a new thread since your problem is different from that of the original poster.

The current version of Firefox is 35. The extended support version (for institutions with tight IT controls) is 31esr.
