Syncing web snapshots not working

I am using Zotfile to sync my linked pdfs via Dropbox. My pdfs are syncing all right - though I've had some problems with broken links across computers that I had to restore manually - but my web-page snapshots are not. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

My settings are:

Zotero, Advanced tab:

Base directory: C:\Users\My User Name\Dropbox\Zotero

Data Directory Location: use profile directory

Zotero, Sync tab:

Sync automatically and Sync full text content enabled, Sync attachment files in My Library disabled

Zotfile:

Source folder: C:\Users\My User Name\Dropbox\Zotero

Location of files: C:\Users\My User Name\Dropbox\Zotero
  • ZotFile doesn't move snapshots, so Dropbox doesn't sync them. The only way I'm aware of to sync snapshots is to use Zotero File Storage or a WebDAV service (for both of which you'd start by enabling "Sync attached files"
  • right, but then I would be uploading my whole pdf file connection, wouldn't I, and exceeding my 300 meg limit?
  • or maybe not, because the pdfs in my Dropbox folders are linked files, not attached files?

no, since you're moving them out of the Zotero data folder with ZotFile. Only files in the Zotero data folder (.../zotero/storage) syncs with Zotero File Sync/WebDAV

edit: so exactly what you say about linked vs. attached files.
  • You're misunderstanding the ZofFile Source folder, btw. - you should either disable that feature or set it to the download folder for you preferred browser.
  • right, thanks, this should do it
  • oops, sorry, what was that about the Zotfile source folder? I thought the idea was that by enabling that anything I downloaded through Zotero gets immediately renamed and moved, so that's not what it does?
  • No. ZotFile does that using the setting right below, where you set the location folder.

The Source folder allows you to attach the last file you downloaded into that folder to a Zotero item you have selected (That's what the "Attach New File" option in the context menu does). Most people don't use it much.
