Problem syncing

I already tried a restart, looking at virus software, etc...

The first notification screen that appears states: 0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS) [nsIFile.create]

Then I get this: [JavaScript Error: "bad script XDR magic number"]
[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS) [nsIFile.create]" nsresult: "0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/file.js :: Zotero.File</this.createShortened :: line 326" data: no]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/file.js" line: 657}]

  • (From the other thread)
    Fix your product, please.
Don't be surprised if you don't receive a response from Dan, but in the off chance that you do, please submit a Debug Log for an attempt to sync (post just the ID here).

What is this supposed to mean?

That snark isn't particularly welcome here. We're happy to do our best to help you, but please keep it polite.

In addition to the debug (thanks) anything unusual about your set-up? This problem has occurred in the past when people had their data folder in Dropbox or when using symlinks. Either of that the case? Any security software that you could temporarily disable while troubleshooting?

    Hi Adam,

Regarding the technical issue: I looked for the Zotero data directory, particularly the Zotero.sqlite folder (not sure if this is what you are referring to) and this is its location: /Users/

I do have some of the files linked to Zotero entries in Dropbox, but others are on my desktop, and still others in Box.

As far as I know, I am not using any symlinks. (At least based on what I found out about symlinks when I Googled the term).

I run Avast for security and did disable it and try to sync to no avail. I can disable it for other troubleshooting.

Please let me know what I need to do next. Thank you for your attention to my problem.

    https://www.zotero.org/support/forum_guidelines
    In particular:
You may receive a short reply to your question, such as a simple “yes” or “no”, or a link to a previous relevant discussion. Don't interpret this as a dismissal of your question. The people lending user support deal with a large volume of posts and often don't have time to write extensive replies.
    but also
Post when you're calm. In many cases, the reason for posting to the forums is that you experienced some kind of frustration: something isn't working, you are unable to figure out how to do something, or maybe you believe you've lost your work. Take some time to calm down before posting. The forums are not a place to vent frustration or anger.
Dan's reply is something he writes about a dozen times a week without anyone taking offense, not sure why you perceived it as dismissive. The purpose of directing people into separate threads is specifically to make the forum _less_ confusing by not trying to solve several different issues in the same thread.

Dan will have to look at the debug to say more, so right now nothing more we'd need from your side.
  • TeachGuz: See my response here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/44303/syncing-problems-in-standalone-version/#Item_6

You're seeing the same issue. In Zotero, paste '42Z3RQT2' into the search bar in All Fields & Tags mode to find the attachment in question, and then follow the steps there.

I haven't yet been able to reproduce this, but as I say there, we'll fix this for the next version.
  • Hi Dan,

Thank you for the information. I did as you suggested, but I still am not able to sync. I tried finding other files with the slash problem, and fixing those (by editing out the slash) but to no avail. The new problem report ID is 838419301
  • Hmm, you actually have a bunch of these:

    59M7HDKX
    BGWQ6KKN
    RJ246R4K
    SVZ6INDJ

Try taking care of those and see if the problem continues. These were all imported a long time ago, I'm guessing before we put fixes in place to prevent it.
  • That did it. Thank you.
