Zotero Standalone Windows 8 and firefox

I've got Zotero installed as a standalone application on Windows 8 but it is acting buggy. I downloaded the firefox extension, but it doesn't recognize my standalone version, and instead gives me an empty version of Zotero (with no references) when I open it on firefox.

The standalone version also won't index my files.

So far I haven't had any problems on Windows 7, is this a problem with Windows 8 (I've gone one running on one computer, the other running on another computer).

I've got the latest version of firefox.

Thanks,
Marcie
  • See here for the Firefox/Standalone issue:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/sharing_data_directory

For indexing files, make sure the pdf tools are installed under the "search" tab of the Zotero preferences.

There are no known issues with Zotero and Windows 8.
  • Thanks, I think I've figured out where I went wrong, but I'm still having problems fixing it...

when i ask zotero what the directory is it gives me a directory. In that directory is AppData. That directory DOES NOT show up when I go there eiher from firefox to add in the new corrected directory or just when using explorer.

I had the same problems in Windows 7. How do I back up the files (or reset the directory that the Firefox version of Zotero is using) if the directory is hidden?
    Thanks,
    Marcie
  • you can set up Windows to show hidden files/directories (simply google with your exact Windows version and language for instructions), but that should really not be an issue in the selection dialog from the preferences in Zotero, so make sure you're looking in the right place.
