Tags For Document Elements

My research requires that I track snippets (paragraphs, quotes, phrases) in addition to complete articles. In many cases, I won't need the entire file, just some of the informational gems it contains. So, I want to be able to tag these gems instead of the entire article. You need to create a 'Tag Highlighter'. I can highlight a paragraph or quote - then select or create a tag from your tag engine. I would create tag labels 'quote', 'phrase', etc. I would add topical tags to the tag highlight as well. The 'Highlight Tags' would carry a unique icon and would show up alphabetically in the middle panel of Zotero. With this function, I would be able to export an entire topical collection of snippets for uses outside of Zotero. By way of reference: A Macintosh product 'Notebook' by Circus Ponies Software provides such a highlighter. Thanks for your consideration of my suggestion.
  • There is already a way to do something like what you are proposing.

Instead of highlighting these snippets on archived pages try pasting them into notes. In some cases you can just select text on web pages, right click, and chose "Create Zotero Item and Note from Selection". You can then tag those notes with the criteria you use to organize these snippets.

One of the nicest parts of this approach is that you can then just drag and drop those snippets into any open text field to paste the contents of the note into that field.
