Word plugin cannot upgrade document

Having installed the new plugin, I have no trouble inserting and editing citations and bibliographies in a new document. The plugin does not, however, succeed in upgrading my old (1.0.7) ones: it produces the "error communicating with Zotero" box when I say OK to its prompt whether I want to upgrade my document.

Can there really be a communication error in existing documents but not in new ones?

    I sent the document last week. Did you by any chance find out what was wrong?

    That's not my department, I'm afraid, but I created a ticket and passed the file along.
