Syncing problems in standalone version

Report ID: 688764124

I have Zotero 4.0.23 and use Chrome. Everything works fine except that the standalone version of Zotero won't sync anymore. I just get the exclamation point. I'm afraid that deleting and downloading it again means I'll lose the citations that I've added since the problem began. Thanks for any help.
  • don't re-install or uninstall anything. What does it say exactly when you click on the red exclamation mark?
  • I get this:

    My Library

    Component returned failure code: 0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS) [nsIFile.create]
  • Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for a sync attempt that produces the error?

Also, if you're running any security software, try temporarily disabling it before syncing to see if that makes a difference.
  • Hi. The debug ID is D371040359.
  • There's an issue with files with slashes in the filenames. We'll fix that for the next version, but if you go to https://www.zotero.org/clmoore3/items/itemKey/IARZKZGF you should be able to see the attachment in question, move it to the trash, and then delete it from the trash. Then the sync should go through (unless there's another file with the same problem).

It'd also be helpful if you remember how you got that item into your library. Zotero filters the characters in filenames, and it shouldn't be possible to end up with a slash in a filename, so knowing how it happened for you would let us fix that as well.
  • Thank you. I'm still getting an error, but the error only keeps the citation with slashes from being saved and does not affect others. Unless there's a quick way to identify all entries with slashes, I'll just deal with the little exclamation point for now. Thanks again!
