Problems downloading full text PDFs

I am currently having trouble downloading PDFs with Chrome. I’ve checked all the troubleshooting issues with Zotero translators listed and the known translator issues but nothing has helped.

user jbaart yesterday posted a similar sounding problem but mine seems to be different.
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/43371/cant-get-pdfs-at-all-with-chrome-not-behind-proxy/#Item_0

I also am able to get snapshots but no full text PDFs. The sites I have had problems with are
http://informahealthcare.com.proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/doi/full/10.3109/07434618.2014.906498
and
http://search.proquest.com.proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/docview/1460847929/A483F54D99854B75PQ/1?accountid=14816

In jbaart’s topic user adamsmith said to to try the following site, which I also did and WAS able to get a pdf.

So is my issue that both of these sites have linked PDFs? Or do they need new translators. Hovering over one has the translator listed as Atypon Journals. Any help would be great.

I just got a new mac and downloaded the latest standalone Zotero and Chrome extension. I have checked and I am not behind a proxy. Perhaps there are some Chrome settings I need to adjust?

I also attempted using Firefox but had the same results.
  • For Proquest, you will not get PDFs when going through a proxy and using the Chrome connector.

The informahealthcare.com article though -- I'm having problems saving that page at all because of an illegal character in their export data (RIS). But if it does save for you, the PDF should save, too. So could you say exactly what's happening on that page?

Are you able to import metadata from http://informahealthcare.com.proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/doi/full/10.3109/07434618.2014.906498 at all? I'm pretty sure that at least that particular article is broken and you should be getting an error (we're addressing the issue).

I'm not able to access the PDF for http://search.proquest.com.proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/docview/1460847929/A483F54D99854B75PQ/1?accountid=14816 but looking at other articles, it looks like ProQuest is serving PDFs from a different domain (media.proquest.com) and that will currently not work with Chrome connector when using proxy (and in some other cases). We're working on that fix too, but it will take some time.

    Edit: wow... 1 hour late.
  • The general import issue with informahealthcare.com should now be fixed. Update your translators via Preferences -> General -> Update Now, restart Chrome and try again.

Also, since I forgot to address this above,
I have checked and I am not behind a proxy. Perhaps there are some Chrome settings I need to adjust?
You're accessing the websites through your library's proxy (it's in the URL: library.vanderbilt.edu)
I also attempted using Firefox but had the same results.
Can you confirm that for ProQuest? Also make sure that you actually have access to the PDF.
  • Thanks everyone. I misunderstood that I was behind a proxy so that explains why Chrome isn't working for the Proquest link. In Chrome now I am able to get a snapshot but still not a full text PDF. In Firefox I don't even get the Zotero icon in the address bar(I do have the extension working on Firefox though)

The informalhealthcare.com now seems to work normally. Thank you for updating that.
  • In Firefox I don't even get the Zotero icon in the address bar
are you sure your Zotero add-on for Firefox is up to date? It should be version 4.0.24.1 (you can check under tools-->add-ons in Firefox).
