How to enter periodicals (not the individual articles)
Under which category would I enter a periodical, where I do not want to enter an individual article?
Example: One of the most widely used sources of music history is the Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung. When I cite from it, I rarely have authors to name, nor titles of articles. So the usual way to quote is:
either
Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung 14 (1812), col. 175.
or
AmZ 14 (1812), col. 175.
where 14 is "Jahrgang", not the issue within the year, since one year is completely number in columns.
Which category do I use in Zotero? Which fields?

BTW some information about title and author of individual articles in the AmZ can be found online.
Since you are, in fact, referring to specific articles in the periodical, I'm with zuphilip and wouldn't recommend using "book" here, though that would indeed be the way to go for entering whole periodicals (we will very likely get a dedicated item type for that in the future).
Journal article would all work well, only, there is no author and no title. In Zotero I see... nothing.. for this reference. It is rather annoying to work with, and doesn't really handle well.
Also, typing amz when adding a citation doesn't work, even though this is the short title in the entry. This should find it, no?
Then in the citation it renders as
, in: Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung 14 (1812), Sp. 123.
This would be fine except for the ", in:" at the beginning, that absolutely shouldn't be there.
The reference in Zotero is actually only the periodical, not the article itself. But I see no category for this.
I guess I will have to fix this in the style with a conditional.
Well, you may have noticed that a substancial amount of articles is "Anonymous", probably the majority.
It is custom to cite the AmZ just like did above. Authors are only named when they are relevant, or at least known.
I wished there was a category for this, journal or something like that.
Anyway, I am still learning, and will eventually rewrite the style, so it is logical and adheres to the good practice guidelines where possible. But right now I am just fixing things, so they work more less as they should.
