Bookmarklet and Chrome desktop

I recently switched to Zotero for managing my research, but have not been able to get the Bookmarklet to work on campus with the Chrome browser. I am not able to download the software on campus computers, so it appeared that Bookmarklet would be best for linking my research to my account. Unfortunately, I continue to get the error "Looking for Zotero Standalone...…" no matter what computer or resource I use. I have tried Amazon, our university databases, Ebscohost, APA Eric database, and direct opening PDFs. It was my understanding I did not need to download any software in order to use bookmarklet - is there something that I should do differently to connect bookmarklet to my account?
  • Recent changes in Chrome (I think version 38) broke the Bookmarklet and, unfortunately, we haven't fixed it yet. If you can use a different browser, it may work better.

For technical reference, the Bookmarklet loads some content into an iframe on the page from HTTPS://www.zotero.org and then tries to communicate with Zotero Standalone via HTTP://127.0.0.1:23119. Requesting HTTP content from a secure HTTPS page is considered insecure and is now blocked by Chrome.
  • That makes sense - I appreciate the help.
  • But it's true that the bookmarklet is also made to work without Zotero Standalone, saving directly to zotero.org. It optionally can save to Standalone if it's open, but the fix to the above problem may just be to remove that functionality and have it always save directly to zotero.org.
  • This always save directly to Zotero.org would please me -- especially if the save could be to a collection specific to the bookmarklet. My current practice is to find the online items by sorting by date-added. The ability to immediately go to a bookmarklet collection would be a time saver.
