retrieving metadata from dissertations from ProQuest

I'm new to Zotero and have looked for an answer to this question but forgive me if it's somewhere I just haven't found it.

I've downloaded a significant amount of dissertations from ProQuest but when I import them into Zotero, it can't retrieve the metadata for any of them. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.

    Dissertations are probably not going to work well with automatic metadata retrieval. Zotero mainly looks for DOIs and ISBNs in the PDFs, then looks them up in databases like Library of Congress, WorldCat, and CrossRef. Failing that, it takes some text from PDFs and queries Google Scholar. Neither of those databases are probably going to work well with dissertations.

    It's a bit late since you already have the PDFs, but you should be able to use the URL bar icon from ProQuest to fetch metadata and the PDFs.
