PNAS style problems #2

(I have added this problem to a previous discussion, but thought it might be better to have it on its own discussion thread)

Hello,

I have found an error in the PNAS style:

The name of many journals are incorrect:

For example, PNAS itself, must be cited like:

"Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA" (Correct style)

But as of now, ZOTERO cites as:

"PNAS" (Current style)

Other journal names that come out incorrect in the PNAS style:

Human Molecular Genetics
Pigment Cell and Melanoma Research
American Journal of Pathology
Cancer Research
(just to name a few)

Can you please fix this???

Thank you in advance,
you guys are great in fixing these problems quickly,
hope this time will be just as swift

  • TLDR: In the MS Word plugin when you select the CSL style, you should select "Automatically abbreviate journal titles".

Longer: The citation style language does not specify the method for abbreviation. Zotero has two ways to decide on abbreviations: the automatic use of MEDLINE abbreviation when you select the above option (and this is what PNAS's author guide says you should use) or the "Journal Abbr" field for the source within Zotero. The PNAS site auto-populates this abbreviation field with "PNAS" & the site translators for those other journals are likely responsible for the abbreviation you are seeing. You could, alternately, update the "Journal Abbr" field for each reference you cite. But this is, of course, a lot of work.
