Zotero not downloading pdfs from ProQuest newspapers anymore!

The old icon at the top allowing direct pdf download no longer works on ProQuest Historical databases. Zotero thinks I am just looking at a webpage and downloads the reference only. Document type shows as "WEBPAGE."
I made sure the download preference was correct, even disabled proxies as another thread suggested. Has there been a change in Zotero or ProQuest?
Thanks, Tom
  • There was a recent change actually which could have broken this. Could you make sure your translators are up to date via Preferences -> General -> Update Now, then restart browser and try again.
  • Actually, could you be more specific about the database you're referring to? Is this for History Vault? Historical Newspapers? Something else?
  • Proquest has permalinks - ideally just post that.
  • Same problem for me, using Proquest Historical Newspapers. Everything is up to date and I've tried restarting both chrome and zotero standalone. Still not working.
  • see my post right above yours--a permalink would really help.

  • Okay, I can reproduce that (also I don't have access to anything after 1922). The url seems not to be handled. We can fix that.
  • Still a problem after updating translators on both machines in Firefox. This is new and can significantly slow down my collaboration with students on this project. Is this a ProQuest change, or a Firefox change? Can it be put back?
As I said: all ProQuest Historical Newspaper downloads show up only as "Web Page" when you click the icon in the address pane, so there is no capability anymore to directly download "Newspaper Article" as Item Type with Attached PDF.
Thanks, I was not able to follow Sylvia's link. zuphilip are you with Zotero? Hopeful someone can fix this. Thanks, Tom
  • It's a Proquest change. Fix should be done by the end of the weekend, hopefully earlier, but no guarantees. (Like most people here, zuphilip doesn't work for Zotero, but he does contribute translator code).
  • Should be fixed now. Update your translators via Preferences -> General -> Update Now and restart your browser. Let us know if it's still not working. When you scroll over the URL bar icon, you should see "Zotero (ProQuest)" in the tooltip.

Let us know if there are any remaining issues.
