how does zotero save?

i explain:
when i export a library:
export collection>format RDF> export notes > save in desktop
always i save the same collection, zotero overwrite the same file and OK.

if i do
export collection>format RDF> export notes and files > save in desktop

zotero creats a main-folder> inside there are file.rdf and files-folder

when i save again the same collection
zoter creates another main-folder inside the first one with the same content
if i save again, zotero creates another main-folder in the second main-folder inside the first main-folder and so long.

Why zoter doesn't overwrite, when export the same notes and files, the same files like in the first case?
is it your choose or a bug?

thanks in advance
  • This is more just a quirk with the way the Windows file picker works when the specified filename matches an existing folder—you'll note that you actually have to click Save multiple times, with the initial clicks simply navigating into the upper folders and only the last Save actually beginning the export. The simple workaround is to just choose a different filename. Mac OS X, for what it's worth, prompts you to replace the topmost directory if it exists.

Note that if you're trying to back up a library, Zotero RDF is not the best approach.
  • Thanks very very very much Dan!!!
