trash

Hello. I want to get rid of 12142 items in my trash, but as I already removed the pdf's going with the records from my system, the system stops working (wont respond). It does work when I remove records that do not have a pdf attached to them.., but I don't know how I can automatically remove the pdf link in the record, can anyone help me?
  • how long have you let it run? Emptying a trash with 12k items will freeze Zotero/Firefox for some time.
  • An hour or so. But I might just let it run overnight then..
  • that seems long. Why don't you try just deleting a couple of items at once in the trash, see if that works (deleting in the trash is the same as emptying it). If it does work, either do go in larger batches--maybe 500 at a time--or do let it run overnight.
  • It worked for one at a time, for five at a time and for 25 as well, only after 7 minutes, so I'm now trying the large batch overnight (according to calculations that should take around 35 hours)
  • That's really odd, though. Deleting 25 items shouldn't take 7 secs, let alone 7 mins. Maybe check your database integrity in the advanced tab of the preferences?
  • Database integrity is also not responding, apparently I've got a crappy Zotero Standalone here..
  • or maybe just impossibly large database, I guess that could be another reason. What's your total number of items?
    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/item_count
  • no problems in database integrity, just very slow apparently; total library 12918 records; trash bin now only 7548 after I removed the ones which had no pdf link attached
  • odd, that's really not that big, shouldn't slow things down so much. We'll do empty the trash, see if that will just speed up everything else.
  • I succeeded in emptying the trash, it took less than 35 hours luckily :)
Database integrity still takes some time though..
  • If I remember correctly, older versions of Zotero could take a long time when emptying the trash. Is Zotero up to date? If not, an old version will also throw other problems.
  • Database integrity still takes some time though..
Can you submit a debug log for performing a database integrity check? https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output and what is "some time"? 1 minute? 10 minutes?
  • I don't have internet access on my pc on which Zotero is running, and I can't post the debug file here (its too long). Database integrity took about 10 minutes though..
  • You can zip up the file and email it to support@zotero.org
  • Sent it, many thanks for looking into it.
  • Dan, could you take a look? Is there anything suspicious in there?
  • 1) yoda: You're running Zotero 4.0.17, which is old. Upgrade to the latest version of Zotero from zotero.org.

    2) aurimas:
